Music Instruction

BioTestimonialsStudent Recordings

I instruct students using method books and can incorporate popular pieces if requested.  The main focus is to learn how to read music and play an instrument well.  RCM Exams are encouraged as they provide professional feedback, certification and a sense of achievement. Written instruction is provided on a weekly basis including a list of pieces, technical keys, theory and guidance regarding specific areas of focus.  Lessons are private and take place in the student’s home, or online, and are typically a half hour to an hour in length.

The focus of instruction includes various combinations of the following:
  • Technical and artistic development
  • Timing / rhythmic training
  • Sight reading
  • Memorization
  • Exam and concert / recital preparation
  • Learning popular and or classical repertoire
  • Preparation for school performances.
  • Theory
***Students should be committed to handling the additional workload plus their regular school work.  The amount of work can be adjusted from time to time.  They must also be committed to regular weekly practice.  Young children must be able to focus for a half hour and may need parental supervision during lessons until they are able to practice on their own.  Test lessons can be arranged in order to see whether they are ready to learn an instrument.  I typically instruct students from ages 7 and up to senior adults.
***For online lessons, a good wifi or direct ethernet connection is required as well as FaceTime, Skype or Zoom apps.

“My student’s often score above the national average on exams, place in competitions and over come old struggles, improving on their ability to play, read and interpret music.  Visit the “Student Recordings” page to hear them play!”
